Basbousa with Nutella®
Basbousa is a cake-like dessert traditionally topped with sweet syrup – and now you have a Nutella version to try for National Day, too!

Ingredients

1/2 Cup Unsalted Butter

3/4 Cup Caster Sugar

1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract

2 Eggs

2 Cups Semolina
-
1 Teaspoon Baking Powder

1/2 Teaspoon Baking Soda
-
3/4 Cup Whole Yogurt
-
180g Nutella (15g per serving)

2 Cups caster sugar
-
1 Cup Water
-
2 Tablespoons Rose water (or orange blossom water)

2 Tablespoons Freshly squeezed lemon juice

To prepare this delicious recipe, 15g of Nutella® per person is enough to enjoy!
Method:

STEP 1
Preheat oven to 180 degrees c
In a bowl mix cream butter, sugar and vanilla until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time

Sift semolina baking powder and baking soda and fold into the butter mix with the yogurt

Spread the batter into a greased cake tin

Bake for 30-35 minutes

Make the syrup by bringing sugar and water to the boil, stirring til the sugar is dissolved. Add lemon juice and boil for 10 minutes, allow to cool

Spoon the cooled syrup over hot cake and cool thoroughly
Decorate with Nutella
